Serbia’s President Convenes Security Council, Warns of Regional Threats
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic convened an emergency meeting of the National Security Council following a U.S. attack in Venezuela and criticized the capture of his ally, President Nicolas Maduro, saying it was clear that international law and the United Nations Charter “no longer function.”
“Today, the rule of force prevails in the world — the law of the strongest. This is the only principle of contemporary politics that exists today,” Vucic told reporters Sunday in Belgrade after the council meeting.
Vucic said Serbia “seeks friendship with the United States,” but added that it has a duty to speak out when international law is violated.
He also expressed concern over a defense alliance between Albania, Kosovo and Croatia, signed in 2025, which he described as a threat to Serbia’s security, territorial integrity and sovereignty.
