SMI Submits Materials at SPAK on Incinerators after Ex-Minister’s Arrest

Chairwoman of the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI), Monika Kryemadhi, has submitted Thursday to the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) additional materials, which according to her prove abuses related to the incinerators affair.

Two days after the arrest of former Minister Lefter Koka, the additional materials submitted to SPAK are related to the incinerators of Tirana, Elbasan and Fier.

In the letter submitted to SPAK, the chairwoman of the SMI states that she remains open to cooperate with this body in order to contribute to a more objective investigation of this issue.

However, the Socialist Movement for Integration has previously filed three lawsuits, accompanied by documents for the incinerators in Tirana, Elbasan and Fier.

On Tuesday, SPAK seized the companies 'Albtek Energy' and 'Integrated Technology Services' as he was accused for 'Abuses with Duty' and 'Active Corruption' of high officials of state.

At the same time, SPAK seized all properties of Koka in Elbasan and the company “Kantina e Pijeve Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu” sh.a., in Durres.

One day ago, the Deputy Chairman of SMI, Petrit Vasili, reacted through a press conference regarding the incinerator affair, considering it a belated decision.

Vasili called the arrest of former Environment Minister Lefter Koka an action directed by the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), as there was enough time for him to be brought to justice without buying the April 25 elections.

"The whole mafia robbery network, not of 3 million euros but of hundreds of millions of euros, is there. There was no time for the group to delete the evidence, we had it in time and reported it to the SPAK. Why did SPAK leave the criminal group to use their millions to elect its members in the Albanian Parliament?

Did it take investigations for months that the father of an MP was given a salary of 10 million ALL? They should have been brought to justice months ago.

Those applauses for these steps taken by SPAK are against the fight with this affair. It is quite clear that there was a will to keep the case pending, to use the characters involved to buy the votes of Albanians with the millions of euros they had stolen.

It was clear that in many counties money was thrown to buy elections from the gang that has benefited millions. Of course this requires a united front of all those who are against in this battle. Thanks to the SMI denunciations, these small steps that you are seeing today have been taken. It is strange and unacceptable but also a proof of dubious will, the non-participation of SMI members in the Committee of Inquiry for Incinerators.

The Democratic Party organized activities at the same time that we made these denunciations. How is it possible that the chairman of the Democratic Party did not support the denunciations of the SMI? Today, a small part of this affair has been affected, the incinerator of Tirana and Fier remains intact, where the abuse of the mayors of these cities screams. When Erion Veliaj seizes the competencies of the Municipal Council and the district of Tirana and comes to the aid of this affair, only the action directed by SPAK can leave him as not involved", said Vasili at the time.
