The Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) has issued an official statement detailing charges against the Director of the National Agency for the Information Society (AKSHI), Mirlinda Karçanaj, and seven other individuals, following a large-scale investigation into alleged corruption in public procurement.

Karçanaj is accused of violating equality in public tenders, committed in cooperation and within the framework of a structured criminal group, as well as involvement in criminal offences carried out by an organised criminal organisation. She is among four individuals placed under house arrest.

According to SPAK, one suspect has been suspended from public office, while three others have been banned from leaving the country. Two businessmen have been ordered into pre-trial detention, although the measures have not yet been executed.

SPAK alleges that members of the structured criminal group manipulated tender criteria to favour specific companies, forced competing firms to withdraw complaints through unlawful pressure, and used fictitious invoices and financial transactions to conceal illegal gains.

The investigation, registered in December 2025, covers offences including illegal competition, unlawful deprivation of liberty, money laundering, and participation in a structured criminal group. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to uncover further criminal acts and identify additional individuals involved.
