'Parliaments Must Have Key Role in Integration Process'
Chairwoman of the Commission for European Affairs, Jorida Tabaku, emphasized Friday that parliaments should have a key role in the integration process.
In her speech at the conference on "The Role of Parliament in the Berlin Process", Tabaku added that this process should move beyond paper and be more practical for citizens.
"We discuss the common regional market and initiatives in this market, but we must move to that, as the Foreign Minister of North Macedonia has been saying for a long time, integration before membership. Because this long process, which has been and is perhaps a bit tiring for the citizens of our countries, needs to move beyond paper.
We must make it practical for the citizens. Let's put people at the center of this process and not politics. And I hope that the Parliament of Albania decided with this first meeting that we will continue in Berlin next month, to be only the first and not just an act. A meeting or a conference.
But it should be part of an integral process, where all of us do something regardless of the opposition or the government, regardless of where we are today or where we will be tomorrow, to change the reality of our countries", said Tabaku.
