Tensions escalated quickly outside Albania's Parliament on Monday as a protest turned confrontational, with demonstrators attempting to move toward the parliamentary building.

For several minutes, groups of protesters moved through the streets surrounding the Parliament, seeking to breach police cordons that had been established to secure the area. Officers prevented demonstrators from reaching the legislature, maintaining a tight security perimeter.

The standoff led to brief clashes, during which some protesters threw eggs at police officers. In response, law enforcement used irritant spray at several points to disperse the crowd and keep the situation under control.

The incident unfolded while lawmakers continued proceedings inside Parliament under heightened security.
