Tirana Airport Passenger Traffic up 48% in 2024
The airport in the Albanian capital Tirana handled 10.7 million passengers in 2024, 48% more than a year earlier, the airport operator, TIA, said on Tuesday.
Wizz Air was passengers’ preferred airline in 2024, holding a 54.84% share of the Albanian flight market, followed by Ryanair with 22.23%, and Air Albania with 3.42%, TIA said in a notice.
Total aircraft movements grew 35% year-on-year to 68,346 in 2024. Cargo operations increased 18% to 2,257. In December alone, passenger numbers rose 14.7% on the year, to 730,953.
The airport serves as the main hub for Wizz Air and the country's flag carrier Air Albania. It is the largest airport in Albania and is one of the busiest Balkan airports after reaching 10 million passengers in 2024. On 9 December 2024, the airport celebrated a major milestone by surpassing 10 million passengers.
