Tirana’s Eagle Square Closed to Traffic from Monday
Drivers are being urged to avoid Tirana’s main entry road at the Eagle roundabout starting from Monday (October 26), as the traffic of vehicles will be diverted in other directions.
The head of the Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH) Ergys Verdho said on Saturday that the authorities have drafted a plan to regulate movement of vehicles that will enter and leave Tirana. According to Verdho, the traffic at the Eagle roundabout will be diverted due to the works that are being carried out for the third lot of Tirana’s ring road project. The traffic will be directed to secondary roads around the Eagle roundabout with the help of police.
Verdho said that vehicles coming from the southern part of the country are advised to use the Elbasan-Tirana road, while those coming from Kavaja should use the Ndroq road. Meanwhile, a separate access road will be created for emergency vehicles.
“We will create an access road only for ambulances, in cooperation with the police,†the ARRSH head noted.
Verdho added that the Eagle roundabout will remain closed for 3 to 4 months. At a press conference, he said that the works are being carried out in three shifts.
Also Prime Minister Edi Rama has distributed a video which explains the deviation of entry and exit of vehicles in Tirana.
As the works on the large construction site of the Eagle roundabout, a strategic project for Tirana, continue in three shifts, the ARRSH informed the citizens on the new traffic management scheme to be implemented from Monday, Rama said, adding that “at the construction site the work will continue without interruption day and night, for the realization of this complex engineering work.â€
The 27 km ring road is aimed at solving the traffic problems in Tirana and is seen by the authorities as a major project as it will ease traffic flows and reduce congestion-related travel delays for cars and public transport.
