Trial on Ex-Gang Leader Postponed due to Lawyer’s Absence
High Court of Albania was unable to review review this Tuesday the recourse for the conditional release of the leader of the Durrës gang Lulzim Berisha, 5 years ago. The reason for postponing this hearing was the absence of Berisha's defense lawyer.
During the hearing the members of the High Court decided to repeat the announcements, but also to appoint another lawyer mainly.
In the last session, the Court left some tasks where it asked to receive information from the Durrës prosecution, whether Berisha kept in touch with the probation service or not.
5 years ago, Lul Berisha gained parole after the guarantee given for his employment by the Municipality of Durrës, while earlier the Supreme Court had reduced his sentence from life imprisonment to 25 years in prison. The next hearing was adjourned on November 23 at 9:30 p.m.
However, the file for the sensational murder that took place on February 26, 2005 was opened after the confession of the justice collaborator Luftar Reçi who stated that the execution that took place on the Tirana-Durrës highway was done by Plarent Dervishaj and Indrit Taullai by order of Lulzim Berisha.
According to Reçi, Dervishaj was also an accomplice in the preparation of the bomb placed for another sensational murder that took place in 2005, that of the businessman Vajdin Lamaj, which according to him was ordered by Lulzim Berisha and then taken by Emiliano Shullazi.
