Albanian police have arrested two men after uncovering more than 1,100 cannabis plants cultivated on public land in the northern district of Dibër during a large-scale anti-drug operation.

Authorities said Sunday that the operation, codenamed "Deja," was carried out by officers from the Dibër Police Directorate in cooperation with police units from Mat and Kamëz. The suspects were found tending a cannabis plantation in an area known as "Liqeni i Lukanit," located on public property within the Municipality of Dibër.

The two suspects, identified by their initials as A.K., 38, from Kamëz, and A.B., 39, from the village of Derjan in the Municipality of Mat, were arrested at the scene.

Police said officers discovered 1,121 suspected Cannabis Sativa plants, all of which were destroyed by burning during the operation.

The case has been referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Dibër for further legal proceedings.

In a statement, Dibër Police urged residents—particularly those living in rural areas—to report any information related to the cultivation of illegal narcotic plants, stressing that public cooperation remains essential in combating drug-related crime.
