Two protesters have been arrested and 30 others questioned following violent clashes with police during a demonstration outside Albania’s Parliament, authorities said Friday. 

Police said a total of 32 protesters were taken in for questioning after hours of unrest in central Tirana, where demonstrators clashed with officers, threw objects and used pyrotechnic devices during the protest.

The two arrested protesters were identified by police as Orion Peçi and Artemisa Islamaj. Authorities allege that Islamaj provided firecrackers to other demonstrators, while Peçi is suspected of throwing a pyrotechnic device that injured a police officer from the special "Shqiponja" unit.

Police said evidence has been collected as part of an investigation into multiple alleged offenses, including unlawful assembly, disruption of public order, resisting police officers, blocking traffic, assaulting officers on duty, and violations involving explosive or pyrotechnic materials.

The demonstration, which lasted more than eight hours, unfolded in several areas around Albania’s Parliament and nearby government buildings. Protesters threw eggs, tomatoes and other objects toward police lines, while officers used pepper spray and water cannons to disperse crowds.

Authorities said six police officers and 11 protesters were injured during the confrontations. Some protesters were treated for injuries linked to clashes and exposure to crowd-control measures, while police officers were reportedly hurt by thrown objects and pyrotechnic devices.

Among those briefly detained and later released were Dritan Goxhaj and Edison Lika, who had previously participated in protests outside Parliament, according to local reports.

The investigation remains ongoing. The arrested individuals have not been convicted, and under Albanian law they are considered innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
