Von Der Leyen Requests Additional EUR 2 Bln for Western Balkans
The European Commission has requested an additional 2 billion euros for the Western Balkans region during the review of the medium-term financial framework.
It was the President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen who made this statement as she said that this fund of 2 billion euros will be an additional fund in addition to the financial means that were approved earlier regarding the 7-year framework.
In the latest proposal for increasing financial aid, the European Commission cited the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, migration, inflation and the increase in interest rates as justification.
A part of this fund, which is expected to be used only for the challenges of migration, will help the countries of the Western Balkans to face this challenge regarding the illegal passage of immigrants who pass from the "Balkan Route" to the states of the European Union.
With these additional funds, it is expected to finance the strengthening of border controls, refugee accommodation centers and various migration management programs.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Del Leyen, has stated that this change regarding the bloc's budget is necessary since the world is experiencing drastic changes after the Russian attack on Ukraine.
Von Der Leyen stated that it is not only the European Union that is facing the energy crisis and rising prices in various sectors.
