Wizz Air Carries Record Number of Passengers in June
Tirana - 19 July 2022: Wizz Air, Europe’s fastest growing and most sustainable ultra-low-cost airline, celebrates sky high passenger numbers in June, having carried a record 4.34m passengers during month. This represents a 179% increase compared to June 2021..
Over the past 12 months, Wizz Air has rapidly expanded its diverse network, adding 200 new routes to 126 destinations across Europe and beyond.
To support this continued growth, Wizz Air has accepted deliveries of 27 ultra-modern and efficient Airbus aircraft over the past year. Incorporating the latest technologies, Wizz Air’s Airbus fleet is an integral element of the airline’s sustainability strategy, supporting its goals of reducing CO2 emissions by 25% per passenger kilometre by 2030. Earlier this year Wizz Air also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus to explore the potential for hydrogen-powered aircraft operations.
The firm backlog of orders with Airbus underpins Wizz Air’s goal of being a 500 aircraft group by the end of the decade. The order currently consists of 13 A320neo, 255 A321neo and 47 A321XLR aircraft, plus the additional order for 15 A321neo and purchase rights for 75 A321neo, representing a total of 411 aircraft.
Paulina Gosk, Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said: “We are proud to have flown a record number of passengers to their destinations in June. Despite the well-documented challenges facing the travel industry, we have delivered significant growth over the past year, putting in place foundations for continued growth over the next decade. Our order of over 400 Airbus aircraft is a true game-changer for WIZZ, offering the lowest environmental footprint per passenger, as well as underpinning our ambitious WIZZ500 strategy. We would like to thank our loyal customers for continuing to choose Wizz Air for its low fares, diverse route network, young and green fleet, and great onboard service.”
