The new railway station at Tirana International Airport is entering a new phase following the conclusion of the procurement process for the detailed design and construction of the station building.

Albanian Railways has selected the company "Hastoçi" as the winner; the company submitted a bid of approximately Lek 81 million (around Euro 880,000), VAT excluded, against a budget ceiling of Lek 91.6 million.

The process had previously been suspended following a complaint filed by one of the six economic operators participating in the tender. After reviewing the documentation, the Public Procurement Commission determined that the complaining operator had failed to meet the tender requirements and authorized the process to proceed.

The TIA station (also known as Rinas station) will be part of the Tirana–Durrës–Airport railway line. In addition to the station building itself, the project entails various upgrades to the surrounding infrastructure, including passenger platforms, pedestrian access points, sidewalks, parking areas, and designated zones for taxis, buses, and passenger transport vehicles.

Meanwhile, work on the railway line project is progressing on multiple fronts. Contracts are currently being executed for civil works, signaling and telecommunications systems, and the construction of station buildings. Concurrently, the tender for the line's electrification is underway. According to the timeline announced by the authorities, rail transport along the Tirana–Durrës–Airport corridor is expected to launch at the end of 2027. This timeframe does not include the approximately 4-kilometer segment associated with the restoration of the train station in Tirana.

The project to rehabilitate the Tirana–Durrës railway line and the branch to Tirana Airport aims to restore passenger rail transport along one of the country's most important corridors, connecting the capital with Durrës and the international airport.

The project entails rehabilitating existing infrastructure, constructing and reconstructing stations, installing modern signaling and telecommunications systems, and electrifying the line.
