Xoxa Leaves Court, Refuses Comments for Media

The wife of the Mayor of Tirana, Ajola Xoxa, faced journalists late on Wednesday after she left the environments of the Special Court.

While Veliaj was transported to the jail in Durres, Xoxa passed through the group of people who were gathered to support Veliaj and journalists who were waiting outside.

She refused to give any comments for the media.

Accompanied by her bodyguards she leaved without speaking, at least with an easier security measure, the one with an obligation to appear at court twice a month.

The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) charged Veliaj’s wife, Ajola Xoxa. SPAK alleges the couple secured more than 1 million euros ($1.03 million) in illicit income over four years through a corrupt scheme.

Veliaj denied the charges, calling the evidence fabricated and politically motivated. His family’s lawyer, Ermir Beta, told OCCRP they had no comment on the court’s measures, citing unfamiliarity with the full details of the case.
