16 Protesters, Including Organizers, Face Criminal Proceedings Over Tirana Road Blockades

Police launched criminal proceedings against 16 people, including three protest organizers, following demonstrations in Tirana that authorities say disrupted traffic and public order in several parts of the capital.

According to Tirana Police, those under investigation include activists Arben Kola, Luçiana Kokaj and Arilda Lleshi, who have publicly identified themselves as organizers of the protest movement.

Authorities allege that the individuals committed offenses related to obstructing transportation traffic, disturbing public order and peace, and organizing or participating in unlawful gatherings and demonstrations.

Among the other individuals facing criminal proceedings are Ernest Kapo, Aurel Kujtimi, Tomas Kroja, Mateo Yskollari, Xhonatan Dobrozi, Sergo Tafa, Ilir Xhemalaj, Ergi Qoku, Ervis Krepi, Ali Dizdari, Sokol Gjoka and Emir Lecini. Police also announced that two additional individuals, Eduart Qema and Markel Capo, have been declared wanted.

According to preliminary investigations, some of the suspects allegedly encouraged demonstrators to continue the gathering beyond the time frame initially communicated by organizers, extending activities from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Police also claim participants failed to remain within the designated protest area.

Authorities say the actions led to traffic disruptions and difficulties for residents moving through several major roads in Tirana.

Police further stated that some protesters entered the “Fan Zone” area at Skanderbeg Square, a venue set up for sporting activities, where they allegedly disrupted public order and called on spectators to join the demonstration.

The Tirana Police Department said investigations are ongoing and that additional individuals may face legal action as authorities continue to identify those allegedly involved. The case has been referred to the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office for further proceedings.

The latest measures come just days after prosecutors and police initiated separate criminal proceedings against 19 other individuals in connection with the same protests, signaling a broader investigation into the demonstrations and their impact on public order in the Albanian capital.
