Albania among Most Corrupt Countries; TI
The Transparency International report of January 2020, ranked Albania in the 106th place out of 180 countries in total analyzed within the Corruption Perception Index. Compared to one year ago, Albania dropped down 7 positions, thus marking a negative trend as regards the perception of corruption by citizens and the public opinion.
The Transparency International Index this year saw justice reform as a head start to the fight against corruption, but experts say the delay in setting up key structures such as the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Bureau of Investigation contributed to the poor assessment.
Albania scored 35 years and on a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 indicates high corruption and 100 total lack of corruption, the overall world average is 43 points, while the European average is 66 points, which shows a large difference between Albania and European countries.
Bosnia-Herzegovina ranked better than Albania, despite the country recording a six-point decline in the last seven years and is considered the strongest decline in the Balkans.
Kosovo ranked lower in the world ranking of Transparency International, with 36 points, however, scoring a better result than Albania.
