Albania Faces Alarming COVID-19 Infection Rates, Deaths

As the coronavirus pandemic accelerates in many continents, Albania reported Thursday the highest single-day increase with more than 150 cases nationwide. The biggest outbursts were recorded in Tirana with 82 people tested positive, while concerning figures were recorded even in Durres, Shkoder and  Elbasan.

Health Ministry also reported five more deaths due to the novel virus during the last 24-hours.

The victims are a 62 year old from Tirana, a 63 year old from Tirana, a 70 year old from Korça, a 74 year old from Shkodra and an 83 year old from Pogradec.

"From more than 600 tests conducted all over the country, 82 people have tested positive only in capital, Tirana. 10 people resulted positive in each Durrës, Elbasan, 8 in Shkodër, 7 in Kukës, 5 cases in each Korça, Lushnja, 4 cases in each Mirdita, Përmet, 3 cases Pogradec, Divjaka, Kolonja, Malësi e Madhe, 2 in Has and 1 case in each Kavaja, Tropoja, Peqin.

According to the released figures, 64 Covid-19 patients have recovered, 114 are being treated in hospitals, 19 are in intensive care 4 of whom have been put on ventilators.

“In the last 24 hours, 64 citizens have healed, bringing the number of cured to 3616, since the beginning of the epidemic. Currently in the Infectious Diseases Hospital and ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’, 114 patients confirmed positive with Covid19 are being treated, 19 patients are in intensive therapy, 4 of which are intubated. While patients suspected to have been affected by the dangerous virus continue to be treated according to the respective protocols”, said the Director of the Health Service Operator Mirela Cami.
