Albania Signs $6 Billion Energy Deal, Eyes Vlora as Regional Hub
Albania has signed a major agreement aimed at boosting diversification and strengthening energy independence, positioning the country as a growing hub in Southeast Europe.
The deal includes a memorandum of understanding for the development of an energy hub in Vlora, alongside a $6 billion framework agreement for the supply of liquefied natural gas. The initiative is being carried out in close cooperation with the United States and with increased coordination with neighboring Greece.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle said the agreements highlight Albania’s expanding role as an energy connector in the Western Balkans. She emphasized that energy security and economic prosperity go hand in hand, describing the project as a key step toward sustainable development.
Prime Minister Edi Rama called the agreement “extraordinary,” saying it is expected to bring significant investment, modern technology, and long-term supply arrangements. He added that Vlora is set to become a critical for energy flows in Southeast Europe.
Rama also underscored the importance of deeper Albania-Greece cooperation in energy production, supply, and resilience, noting that positioning Albania as a regional connector would enhance stability across the Western Balkans and contribute to broader energy security in neighboring countries.
