Former General Prosecutor Adriatik Llalla Seeks Statute of Limitations on Prison Sentence
Former Albania Prosecutor General Adriatik Llalla has requested that his prison sentence be declared time-barred, arguing that the legal deadline for its enforcement has expired.
Llalla’s request has appeared on a published list of criminal cases involving the statute of limitations.
Llalla is seeking a legal review of his case to determine whether the statutory time limit for enforcing his sentence has expired.
On December 13, 2021, Llalla was arrested in Rome, Italy, following an international warrant issued by Interpol Tirana. His arrest came after Albania’s Special Court of Appeal sentenced him to two years in prison.
In addition to the prison sentence, the former chief prosecutor was banned from holding public office for five years, and several of his assets, including land and an apartment, were confiscated.
It remains to be determined whether the legal grounds cited in Llalla’s latest request will be accepted by the competent court.
