Albania Celebrates National Youth Day

Albania celebrates this Tuesday the National Youth Day (December 8).

On December 8, 1990, students and professors of the University of Tirana became the initiators of the turning point and historical change.

On December 8, 1990, the student protest, known as the "student movement", brought to Albania the overthrow of the brutal communist regime. Boys and girls of the Student City gathered to protest under the mottos "We want Albania like all of Europe", "Freedom", "Democracy", "Long live free Albania", etc.

They demanded the overthrow of the dictatorial system and the establishment of a democratic state that meant the rule of law, integration into Europe and the guarantee of political pluralism one of the main foundations of a democratic state.

December 8 was designated as Youth Day on December 8, 2009 at the suggestion of the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha's Government, in order to commemorate the student movement that ended the dark dictatorial regime in Albania.
