The Association of Journalists of Albania has filed a 127-page complaint with the Constitutional Court challenging the internal regulations of Albania’s Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO), which it says restrict media freedom and the public’s right to information.

The association is seeking the immediate suspension of the rules and their eventual annulment as unconstitutional.

AGSH Chairman, Isa Myzyraj, said the regulations prevent journalists from using mobile phones during hearings, prohibit independent audio recordings and significantly restrict camera access.

The new rules took effect on September 1, despite calls from journalists and media organizations for consultations and a delay. GJKKO also closed its existing WhatsApp group used to distribute official information to journalists, announcing plans for a new group limited to accredited reporters.

The case now rests with Albania’s Constitutional Court, which will determine whether the disputed provisions violate constitutional protections for freedom of expression and access to information.
