Albanian PM Edi Rama Presents New Book Inspired by Ramadan Iftar Speeches
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Thursday promoted his new book, 'Në Sofrën e Hënës', a collection of speeches delivered during Ramadan iftar dinners he has hosted over the years.
Speaking at the presentation, Rama said the idea for the book came partly from Muslim friends and from his own experiences organizing the gatherings. He described the iftar table as a moment that brings together people from different walks of life and religious backgrounds, reflecting Albania’s tradition of interfaith coexistence.
Rama noted that the book had been ready before the Tirana Book Fair but he chose not to publish it at that time, saying he did not want it to draw undue attention away from other authors participating in the event.
The book includes a foreword written by Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a representative of the crown of the United Arab Emirates, while the afterword is authored by an academic who has worked with Rama on cultural initiatives.
During the event, Rama also highlighted a project to establish a museum of Islamic art in Tirana, planned near the historic Toptani Saraj complex, as well as another museum dedicated to Albania’s relationship with the Jewish community under the concept of “Besa.”
