Ambassador Kim Believes DP Cannot Advance if It Has ‘One Foot Stuck in Past’
Stance of the United States towards sovereignty and the Democratic Party (DP) has not changed, but progress cannot be made if one foot is stuck in the past, highlighted Friday the Ambassador of US in Albania, Yuri Kim.
Following the meeting held at the blue headquarters with the leader of the Democrats Lulzim Basha, Ambassador Kim, with an implicit message, addressed the Democrats who support the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, saying that "those who intend to place the US against the Albanian people, are wrongâ€.
"I have seen some disturbing reports that what happened with the designation of major cases of corruption, was an attack against the stability of Albania. In fact, it is wrong and it is offensive.
I will remind everyone that in fact that on May 6, 1920, when the whole world wanted Albania to disappear from the face of the earth, President Willson refused. The only difference from that statement is that Albania will act sovereignly. To those whom the United States intends to impose against the Albanian people, I say you are wrong. The Albanian people know that you are wrong.
Our position on sovereignty and as far as the DP is concerned will not change. There is still a lot of work to be done in the days, weeks and months ahead. It is really essential and excellent that the DP has returned to the Assembly with full forces.
There are also actions that need to be taken to ensure that we have better choices next time. To address all deficiencies identified in the ODIHR report. There is also work to be done in terms of territorial reform and corruption.
And all this requires to have a strong and united DP and move forward, but it cannot be done forward if one foot is left in the past.
And so as always we expect to move forward with Albania, with the people, with the DP, towards the future. Let's move forward", said Ambassador Kim.
