Appeal Chamber Returns to Work the Dismissed Prosecutor Sulaj
The Special Appeals Chamber, decided to return to work the Prosecutor of Tirana, Daniela Sulaj.
This chamber, overturned the decision of the Independent Qualification Commission which dismissed prosecutor Sulaj.
However, the panel of judges of the Chamber was divided in its assessment of the case, with the majority consisting of rapporteur Albana Shtylla and members Sokol Çomo, Ina Rama and Rezarta Schuetz finding the Commission's conclusions on wealth and professionalism unfounded, reinstating Sulaj to office, while chairwoman Natasha Mulaj was in the minority.
The prosecutor appealed the dismissal to the College, raising allegations regarding the procedure followed in during her vetting, regarding her assets, as well as professionalism. The College notes that no serious procedural violations have been identified that would necessitate their correction through judicial debate and has therefore continued the examination of the case in the consulting room.
