Civil Society Protests against Discrimination in Vetting Process

Civil society representatives have held Friday a protest outside the premises of the Vetting Commission in Tirana as a sign of against allegations of provincial discrimination of judges and prosecutors who manage to pass the vetting process.

Reason for this gathering was the hearing against the Former Chief Prosecutor of Tirana Elisabeta Imeraj, where allegations were made that the process against her was initiated for provincial reasons.

In some SMS he read in front of Appeals Chamber, Imeraj stated that the first instance commissioner Genta Bungo, demanded the dismissal of the Tirana prosecutor because she was a "highlander", referring to her origin from Tropoja.

"Ms. Genta Bungo has a terrible prejudice against the subject of re-evaluation. She replied with a laugh: ‘What do you need, one highlander less? Even from Tropoja. Pupupupu! I left because she was my superior", said Imeraj reading the message.
