Albanian government has signed the contract for the construction of the new railway between Tirana and Durres, as reported Wednesday.

In the ceremony held on this occasion, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku gave details on other plans in the railway sector in the medium term.

Moreover, she announced that the construction of the Tirana-Durres project will be completed in the summer of 2023.

"I have the pleasure to participate together with all of you after a long period, we have had to work for about 3 years to get here where we are today, in signing the agreement for the important project of rehabilitation of the railway Tirana- Durrës and the construction of the Rinas airport segment.

The project for the rehabilitation of the railway line from Durrës to Tirana and the connection with Tirana International Airport is one of the priority projects of the Albanian Government, defined also in the national strategic documents and at the same time part of the connectivity agenda of the Berlin Process, which predicts the improved connectivity of transport and energy networks within the Western Balkans, as a driver of economic growth”, underlined Balluku among other things.
