Croatia Hit by Floods after Heavy Rain
Parts of Croatia were struck by heavy rain in recent days, causing the Zrmanja river to burst its banks and flood the town of Obrovac on Monday (May 15) .
The town centre was engulfed by water and several shops were flooded, Croatian newspaper Jutarnji list reported.
Additional flood defence dams were being installed in Obrovac, the Zadarski list daily reported.
An average of 10-40 millimetres of rain fell in Croatia in just 24 hours, according to the Slobodna Dalmacija newspaper, and Croatian meteorologists warned that more rain was to still to come.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Twitter that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure the safety of the population, the Reuters reported.
