Cybersecurity Authority Warns of Phishing Campaigns Impersonating Banks and Postal Service

The National Cyber Security Authority (AKSK) in Albania has urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent SMS messages and emails designed to steal personal and banking information by impersonating banks, the Albanian Postal Service and other public institutions.

In a public advisory, the authority warned that cybercriminals are using fake messages to pressure recipients into revealing sensitive information or clicking malicious links.

According to AKSK, the phishing messages typically claim that recipients have a parcel awaiting payment or address confirmation, that their bank account has been blocked or has detected unusual activity, or that immediate action is required to prevent the suspension of a service.

The authority advised citizens not to click on suspicious links or disclose passwords, one-time verification codes (OTP), PINs or bank card details. It also urged users to verify any notification exclusively through the official websites or communication channels of the relevant bank or institution.

AKSK called on the public to report any suspected phishing attempts both to the authority and to the institution whose identity is being misused.

"One careless click can be enough to compromise your personal data," the authority said, urging citizens to remain alert and verify the authenticity of any unexpected message before taking action.
