Prime Minister Edi Rama has published Sunday a chart on social media comparing judges’ salaries in Albania with those in several European countries, arguing that a proposed pay increase would put Albanian judges at the top of the ranking.

According to the figures shared by Rama, Albanian judges currently earn around €3,241 per month, making them the second-highest paid among the countries listed, behind Romania.

Slovenia ranks third, with judges earning approximately €2,842 per month, while Greece is fourth at around €2,702. Montenegro ranks eighth, with a monthly salary of approximately €1,958.

Rama said that if the salary increase being sought by judges in Albania were approved, their monthly pay would rise to approximately €4,886, placing them first among the countries included in the comparison.

“An entry-level judge in Albania today earns €500 more than a colleague in Greece, and with the decision taken — ‘every man for himself’ — the salary should increase by another €2,000 per month compared with a Greek colleague and €3,000 more than a colleague in Montenegro,” Rama wrote on social media.

The salary debate comes amid broader discussions over judicial reform, pay levels and working conditions within Albania’s justice system.
