Dangerous Albanian Left in Jail by Greek Court

The court of Ioannina has set the security measure "Prison arrest" for Laert Haxhiu, for a period of 40 days, to consider Albania's request for extradition.

Haxhiu, who was arrested a few days ago in Greece, appeared Friday before the court in Ioannina, which acquitted him of the three charges committed in the neighboring country, which were passport forgery, violent opposition to police officers and illegal crossing of the border.

It is now expected that a second session will take place in the court of Ioannina, with the object of examining the request of the Albanian side to extradite him to Albania.

The reason for Haxhiu's stay in Greece, according to sources, is related to the fact that he had two members of his family there. Albanian lawyer with Greek citizenship Detar Hysi was also present at the session.

A few days ago, Laert Haxhiu was caught in Janina in a BMW x6 type vehicle, where he was traveling with two persons with previous records, Juxhin Bajrami and Firdeus Berberi.

Laert Haxhiu is sentenced in Albania to 18 years in prison for injuring Xhuljo Shkurti and his friend in 2016, while he is also being investigated as one of the perpetrators of the Lushnja Massacre in 2017, where Zamir Latifi and Jurgen Hoxha were killed.
