Debate in Distance between Mitsotakis-Erdogan
Tensions and provocative statements between the leaders of Greece and Turkey continue, media in the neighbouring country reports.
Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during a meeting with the government cabinet, declared that Ankara is left alone, as Athens enjoys international support.
"They don't only have Greece against them, they have all of Europe, but also our NATO allies. What we had to say, we said clearly at the UN. Both for the red lines and for the friendly attitude towards the Turkish people. The other party may monotonously repeat their lies and threats. We remain calm and secure in our clean positions with the strength of international law, the vigilance of our armed forces, the support of our allies", he stressed.
However, the reaction of the Turkish leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was not delayed. The Turkish president underlined that the support of the allies will not save the Greeks, as he repeatedly accused Athens of carrying out a "secret invasion" of the islands of the eastern Aegean.
"We know very well the intentions of those who challenge us. The weapons they have collected in Western Thrace and the islands are of no value to us. Our power exceeds Our country will not compromise on its defense. Support from the US and the EU will not save you," he noted.
The representative of the European Commission, responsible for foreign affairs, Peter Stano, called on Ankara to respect the sovereignty of EU member states and commit to solving all open issues in the spirit of good neighborliness with full respect for international law.
