Albania’s Covid-19 Infections Keep Increasing

Constant deterioration of the coronavirus situation is being noticed in Albania these last August days, as 535 new infections were recorded nationwide in the last 24 hours. 

Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced Friday that this number was extracted after a total of 6173 tests was performed nationwide, with Tirana being once again the most affected area, with 184 new cases.

Latest Ministry-released data showed that in addition to Tirana, high figures of cases were seen also in Shkodra (53), Vlora (37) and Durres (39).

On the other hand, the lowest numbers of infections were recorded in in Kurbin, Kukës, Shijak, Vora, Roskovec, Memaliaj, Pogradec, which had 2 cases each and in Poliçan, Skrapar, Devoll, Përmet, Konispol, Delvinë, Himara, Selenica, Patos, Tropojë, Has, Puka, which had only one new case each.

“6173 tests were performed, out of which 535 citizens tested positive with Covid19, in the following municipalities:

184 cases in Tirana, 53 in Shkodra, 37 in Vlora, 29 in Durrës, 19 in Malësi e Madhe, 17 in Kavaja, 16 in Berat, 15 in Lushnje, 13 cases in Saranda, Elbasan, 12 cases in Lezha, Kamza , Fier, 10 in Vau i Dejës, 7 in Peqin, 6 cases in each Rrogozhina, Gjirokastra, Prrenjas, 5 cases in each Kuçova, Dimal, Mallakastra, 4 cases in each Dibra, Mat, Divjaka, 3 cases in each Librazhd, Kolonja , Korça, Tepelena, Kruja, 2 cases in each Kurbin, Kukës, Shijak, Vora, Roskovec, Memaliaj, Pogradec, 1 case in each Poliçan, Skrapar, Devoll, Përmet, Konispol, Delvina, Himara, Selenica, Patos, Tropoja, Has, Puka” informed the top health office of Albania.

Apart from the considerably high number of new cases, two people have passed away due to the virus, namely: a 67-year-old citizen from Elbasan and an 84-year-old citizen from Mat. Fortunately, 122 citizens have been cured in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of recoveries to 131,042 since the beginning of the epidemic.

For the moment, there are 4615 people active with COVID-19 countrywide, while 60 patients are receiving specialized healthcare treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital. This number is higher than the day before, when 4204 people were ill with the pathogen throughout the territory and 59 patients getting treated at the Infectious Diseases.

Due to the high increase in SARS-CoV-2 infections, the Ministry of Health again appealed to the citizens to be vaccinated as soon as possible, in order to protect themselves and their close people and to stop the spread of the dangerous virus.

“August will be open for antiCOVID vaccination for every citizen +18 years old. AntiCOVID vaccines reduce the chance of infection and greatly avoid hospitalizations and fatalities”, stated the Ministry of Health.
