Democrat Ervin Salianji Criticises Berisha’s Leadership, Calls for Party Renewal
Democratic Party (PD) member, Ervin Salianji, has openly expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of Sali Berisha, arguing that the party is failing to listen to its membership and is not responding to the country’s need for political change.
Salianji’s comments come as he begins a series of local meetings aimed at revitalising the PD and reactivating its opposition strategy. He criticised the party’s current approach, saying that while members are demanding “revolt” and a thorough self-assessment, the leadership continues to focus on forums and on insisting that elections were stolen. “Everyone is convinced the elections are manipulated — but how do we solve this problem?” he asked.
He noted that the party has analysed its electoral defeats but has failed to study its victories. With PD having secured wins in six or seven municipalities, Salianji argued that understanding those successes is crucial. He stressed that fresh, untainted candidates — chosen and supported by the grassroots — were key to those wins and could serve as a model for broader party reform.
Meanwhile, Berisha has resumed his traditional “foltore” meetings, holding two gatherings so far with party members in Tirana’s branch 9 and in Mirdita, as internal debate within the PD continues to intensify.
