The Board for Transparency and Temporary Limitation of Wholesale/Retail Prices for Oil and Gas By-products approved new domestic fuel prices during its inaugural meeting on Sunday.

Under the adopted decision, the retail diesel price is set at a maximum of Lek 219 (Euro 2.40) per liter, while the wholesale price is capped at Lek 207 per liter.

Meanwhile, the retail gasoline price is set at a maximum of Lek 195 per liter, with a wholesale cap of Lek 183 per liter.

The prices set by the Board entered into effect on 19 September, at 16:00 and will remain valid until the Board's next meeting, at which point any price adjustments will be reflected.

The Transparency Board draws the attention of all wholesale and retail operators of oil by-products to the obligation to comply with this decision. Any violations detected on the part of operators will result in the suspension of their business activities.

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, are committed to protecting the interests of Albanian consumers and upholding the principles of fair market competition.

Albania continues to have the highest fuel prices in the Western Balkans. Driven by global market pressures and a heavy domestic tax structure, a liter of diesel in Albania is approximately 30% more expensive than the regional average.

When measured against average local earnings, Albania and Kosova face the highest economic burden in Europe for refueling a vehicle.
