DP Allies Suggest Going to Local Elections with Joint Candidate

Allies of the Democratic Party such as Fatmir Mediu, head of the Republican Party (RP), Agron Duka of the Agrarian Environmentalist Party (AEP) and Dashamir Shehi of the Movement for National Development (MND) demand that all parties and opposition factors appear in the local elections of 2023 with a single candidate, in order to have opportunity to win.

According to Dashamir Shehi, the best form of selecting common candidates is polls with citizens, while Mediu and Duka say that in addition to polls, open primaries would also be valid, and not closed only for one political party.

"The opposition must go to the local elections with one candidate. Primaries should not be within a political entity, they should be open where citizens can vote for the best candidate. If we have many candidates, it will be difficult for the opposition. Citizens should also be involved in the process", said Mediu.

While Shehi said that "The opposition must be represented with a candidate in the elections. On March 6, we ran in 6 municipalities and lost 5. The adventure with 2-3 candidates is Rama's victory. In addition to primaries, polls with citizens can also be conducted".

Agron Duka adds that the race to choose the best candidate should include all opposition factions, including the supporters of the head of DP Parliamentary group, Enkelejd Alibeaj.

Allies of DP emphasize that if there will not be a common candidate from the ranks of the opposition, then it is expected to happen again as on March 6, when the possibility of Rama retaining the majority of the municipality would be very great.
