First AI Laboratory Inaugurated in Albanian High School
In the newly reconstructed school, "Sami Frashëri", the first Artificial Intelligence Laboratory was inaugurated, a project which will be implemented in other schools in the capital, and in some schools in other cities of the country.
The head of the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who together with the Minister of Education Evis Kushi and the head of AADF, Michael Granoff, visited the laboratory premises, where the students involved in this initiative learn, expressed pride that this project starts from "Sami Frashëri" high school.
"For me, it is a very special pride that we start this project at "Sami Frashëri". When I did high school in the old building, in the years 1994-1998, you had to do your best to go to the German class. So learn English, and German was the second course. It was special luck to be part of those 20 people, to learn German. It was a ticket to integrate into a civilized world. Meanwhile, for our parents, in the time of communism, the ticket was Russian. It was a way to move forward in that system. Today, if you don't know the coding language 'Python', you have no ticket to climb higher in life. Clearly, the languages ??of today are no longer German and English. With everything that is happening, the languages ??that your generation should learn are 'Python' and 'Java'," said Veliaj.
Head of the AADF Board, Michael Granoff, explained how Albania was selected to carry out this important project.
"When we started, what we thought we should do was to identify the problems and ways to fix the lives of Albanians in the long term, and the second thing was to look for the best models in the world, bring them to Albania and to adapt them. None of us imagined that "INTEL" could choose Albania for a pilot project; who would have thought, many years ago that this could happen. Our ability to convince INTEL to create this program is a sign of what we can do together. The other goal we had and which was very difficult to achieve alone, not only we had to create a partnership between the foundation and a company like "INTEL", but we had to create consortia and partnerships between the main actors," said Granoff.
Since its adoption in December 2019, the Coding Academy has had a major impact on education and employment in Albania.
