Five Injured After Two Boats Collide on Lake Koman in Albania
Five people were injured Wednesday after two boats collided on Lake Koman in northern Albania, according to an official statement from Albania’s State Police.
The collision occurred at around 3:15 p.m. Police said the five injured passengers were outside immediate danger, while other people aboard the two vessels were not reported to have suffered injuries.
Following the crash, several passengers were temporarily left stranded aboard the vessels. They were later brought safely to the Koman pier with assistance from other boats in the area, police said.
Initial reports had suggested that as many as eight people were injured. Authorities later revised that figure, saying five people had sustained injuries.
Local media reported that the injured young passengers were transported by helicopter to a hospital in Shkodër for medical treatment. Further details about their condition were not immediately available.
Police said an investigative team was working to establish the full circumstances of the collision.
The incident comes during Albania’s busy summer tourism season, when Lake Koman is a popular destination for visitors traveling through northern Albania.
