Flamur Noka Dismisses Resignation Claims, Calls for Nationwide Protest

The Secretary General of Albania’s Democratic Party (PD), Flamur Noka, spoke to the media on Saturday following a meeting of the party’s executive leadership, dismissing reports that he had been asked to resign.

Noka said the meeting was held to inform the public about what he described as increasing pressure on Albania’s Constitutional Court and the collapse of judicial reform. He accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of concentrating power and undermining democratic institutions.

Calling on citizens to protest on 22 December at 17:00 on Tirana’s main boulevard, Mr Noka said the demonstration would continue beyond a single day. He stressed that free and fair elections were essential, adding that without them, democracy would have no meaning.

Asked by reporters whether his resignation had been discussed during the meeting, Mr Noka said the only resignation being demanded was that of Prime Minister Rama. He rejected suggestions that he bore responsibility for recent controversies, noting that an apology had been issued over the Ombudsman signature process and citing haste and emotional pressure at the time.

Mr Noka said he had opposed the move and had sought accountability, urging patience as the party continues to pursue its political agenda.
