French Presidency Clarifies Macron's Statement on Kosovo Visas

The office of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has clarified that the issue of visa liberalization for Kosovo "remains open", in a press statement on Tuesday after what the French head of state said from Tirana regarding the suspension of the process.

Macron said this Tuesday that France may suspend the visa liberalization process for Kosovo, due to "non-respect of the word given", accusing Kosovo of not keeping the word given for the formation of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority.

"I want to say one thing very clearly. We have made a gesture of confidence on the issue of visas. As for France, visas have been waived because we respect our word. Today, the word is not being kept. I expect a real commitment from these two authorities, Kosovo and Serbia, to move forward in the coming weeks. This is the very condition for peace in the entire region," Macron said earlier today.

"The president spoke about the tensions between Serbia and Kosovo. He said what our demands were. In this context and taking into account the blockade of Pristina, the president assessed that the issue of visa liberalization remains open", said the Office of the President of France in a response to ABC.
