Head of Albania’s National Information Society Agency Questioned by SPAK

Mirlinda Karçanaj, Director of Albania’s National Information Society Agency (AKSHI), left the premises of the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) this Wednesday after nearly three hours of questioning. Karçanaj, who entered and exited alongside her lawyer, made no comments to reporters gathered outside. Her lawyer, attempting to shield her from the media, was heard saying, “Don’t touch, don’t touch,” as journalists approached.

It remains unclear what specific issues Karçanaj was questioned about. In recent days, several AKSHI employees, as well as staff assigned to various ministries, have also been summoned by SPAK.

The investigative actions follow allegations by the opposition Democratic Party, which claims AKSHI engaged in non-transparent procurement practices worth millions of euros. According to the party, around €7 million including VAT was spent between 2018 and 2025 through closed procedures, negotiated contracts without public notice, and with the same beneficiary repeatedly selected.
