The Head of the International Monitoring Operation (IMO) in Albania regarding the vetting process, Genoveva Ruiz Calavera, has published a letter of farewell speaking about the time she has been in charge of the IMO in Albania. 

Through this letter, Calavera has conveyed some messages regarding the attacks that have been made against her and her staff regarding the vetting process. The outgoing IMO chief has said that in recent months there have been several unprecedented attacks and slanders against IMO staff, in her view, in order to avoid Justice Reform and undermine its implementation. 

"I'm sorry that in recent months, vetting institutions, the International Monitoring Operation (IMO), as well as international observers and their staff have been the target of unprecedented and unfair pressure, misinformation and attacks and personal defamation. This is causing a lot of pain and personal suffering to those who are more than committed to helping Albania. These attacks are intended to avoid reform and undermine its further implementation. But instead of weakening our determination, they give us an impetus, proving that the reform works and that its results have begun to affect personal interests and individuals who have benefited immensely from a deeply corrupt status quo," she said.

Calavera also considered the decision of the EU Council on the opening of accession negotiations with Albania as deserved. In the context of judicial reform, Calavera adds that the vetting process continued to yield results with more than 330 first-degree magistrates verified, of whom more than 60% were fired or resigned. The outgoing Chief of the IMO is pleased as well that the Constitutional Court has regained its functionality and stressed that Judicial Reform is a fundamental requirement for EU accession.

Now, Calavera has been appointed by the European Commission as Director-General of the Department of Interpretation (DG SCIC)
