As high temperatures have increased the demand for energy, the Albanian Power Corporation (KESH) has carried out a purchase for the period 22–30 August 2026, in order to meet consumer needs.

In total, 25,605 MWh of energy have been contracted, while calculations on the published weighted quantities and prices bring the purchase invoice to around 3.38 million euros.

The latest purchase comes about a month and a half after the procedure carried out in early July, when KESH carried out the first import of energy for the year 2026.

In that procedure, 331,200 MWh were contracted for the period 1 July–30 September, with an average price of 125.47 euros/MWh and a value of around Euro 41.6 million, excluding VAT.

That procedure differed from the corporation's usual practice of weekly or short-term purchases, as energy was secured for the entire third quarter. Meanwhile, the latest procedure restores purchases for a shorter period and at an average price about 6.4 euros/MWh higher than that of the July contract.

The need for imports usually increases during the summer season, when the decline in flows in the Drini Cascade is combined with higher energy consumption. Even in 2025, KESH imported energy, while according to data from the Energy Regulatory Authority, the purchase bill during the past year reached 272.2 million euros, including VAT.
