Insurance Sector; Claim Payouts Reach Lek 6bln by end-Aug

The insurance market continued to grow during the first eight months of the year, marked by a higher number of insurance contracts and an increase in the value of paid claims.

According to data from the Financial Supervisory Authority (FSA), between January and August 2026, insurance companies collected approximately Lek 18.34 billion in premiums (the amount paid by the client to obtain insurance), representing a 2.44% increase compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, insurance companies paid out approximately Lek 5.96 billion for claims - 9.04% more than in the corresponding eight-month period of 2025.

Growth was also recorded in the number of insurance contracts, which rose by 6.14%, while the number of paid claims increased by 6.39%.

Vehicle insurance continues to account for the largest share of the market. Compulsory motor insurance makes up 68.78% of the non-life insurance market, with premiums totaling approximately Lek 11.52 billion - a 4.01% increase over the previous year. For these insurance policies, companies paid out approximately 3.88 billion lek in claims, marking a 9.16% increase.

Voluntary insurance also saw an increase in claim payouts. In this segment, approximately Lek 1.64 billion in claims were paid - 14.15% more than in the January–August period - while premiums reached Lek 5.23 billion.

Life insurance, despite accounting for a smaller share of the market, continued to grow. Premiums reached approximately Lek 1.60 billion (up 6.19%), while paid claims rose by 14.71% to approximately Lek 260 million.

According to the AFSA, market trends have been influenced by the performance of motor insurance, health and accident insurance, and loan-linked insurance products.

In recent months, claims activity has remained stable regarding both the amounts paid and the number of cases.
