IPH Head Informs on Covid Situation in Albania

The director of IPH (Institute of Public Health), Eugena Tomini, speaking about the situation of the Covid pandemic in Albania, says that there continues to be a high number of infected people and that the subvariants of COVID-19 have greater transmissibility.

"The curve of COVID-19 has fluctuates during the last 4 weeks. Infections are high, compared to the number of tests. The number of hospitalizations is lower than a year ago. We have more contact between people, as it is the tourist season. There is rampant non-compliance with measures.

BA4, BA5 variants have higher transmissibility. Transmissibility will affect the increase in cases. The epidemiological situation goes hand in hand with vaccination. We are not immune to reinfections, or infections for the first time. Or even more so when we don't have great vaccination coverage. It is important to maintain uniform observance of the measures", said Tomini.

Tomini also gave a prediction regarding what is expected to happen in autumn.

"It is predicted that autumn will have the presence of COVID-19. Since we will also be facing the flu, there is a possibility of a severity of the flu's impact. That's why it's important to combine the flu and COVID-19 vaccine," she said.
