The Presidency of Kosovo has announced that the famous Albanian writer, Ismail Kadare, has been granted the citizenship of Kosovo. 

According to the announcement, President Vjosa Osmani signed the citizenship decree for Kadare on Tuesday, and it will be handed over to the author during her visit to Albania in the near future. 

The president, after signing the decree, is quoted as having said that "granting citizenship to the icon of Albanian literature, the writer Ismail Kadare, is an honour of the state of Kosovo for the creator, who is constantly an important point of reference for Albanians everywhere in the world". 

"The Republic of Kosovo and its citizens feel honoured by the outstanding personality of the nation, our world-class writer, Ismail Kadare, who with his creativity has affirmed our language, culture and tradition", said Osmani.
