Italy, 20 Albanians Arrested in Anti-Drug Operation
20 Albanians and 2 Italians were arrested, while 20 kg of cocaine, 81 kg of marijuana, 10 kg of heroin worth 3 million euros and 453 thousand euros in cash were seized in an operation called "Turn Over" to attack a criminal drug organization. The operation was extended simultaneously to Varese, Milan, Lecco, Bergamo and Novara.
About 80 Carabinieri together with dog units have been on the ground since the dawn of today, to execute arrest warrants. The operation was renamed "Turn Over", because the distinguishing characteristic of the clan was the continuous replacement of distributors operating in the area with "fresh workers", coming from Albania.
The existence of a criminal group already known in the news as being involved in a bloody event that took place in November 2016 in Canegrate, in the area of Legnano, has been established. On that occasion, during a fight with another Albanian group for the control of drug trafficking areas, the Albanian brothers Agron and Alban Lleshaj, 27 and 24 years old, were shot dead. One of those arrested during today's operation is the brother of the victims of that episode.
The investigation for today's operation arose from the arrest in flagrante delicto of an Albanian citizen, who was found in possession of 110 doses of cocaine, with a total weight of 94.2 grams and the amount of 11,950 euros in June 2020.
Many of the collaborators are connected to each other by family ties and the criminal association is characterized by the ability to ensure a continuous turnover of distributors in the area, ensuring a rotation of subjects coming from their country of origin every 3 months.
3 houses have been identified in the province of Varese, used exclusively as a "warehouse" for narcotics and a "laboratory" for packaging doses. Furthermore, it appeared that the fact that some members of the criminal association were banned did not prevent others from continuing, through their members, to manage the affairs of the association.
