Joe Biden Not to Participate in King Charles III Coronation
President Joe Biden will not attend the coronation of King Charles III, but is expected to send First Lady Jill or Vice President Kamala Harris.
The guests, including world leaders, have been notified by Buckingham Palace of the date of the ceremony to be held in May, but the head of the White House will not be among them.
This is the second time that Biden will avoid a meeting with the monarch.
"We think the representative will be the first lady or the vice president," a source told DailyMail.
Daily Telegraph newspaper, which first reported the news, added that Dame Karen Pierce, the British ambassador to the US, and Buckingham Palace aides had held "cordial and diplomatic" talks with the White House about the delegation.
A White House official said the delegation that will attend is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Charles became king after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in September last year.
On May 6 he will be crowned at Westminster Abbey. The ceremony reflects a thousand years of tradition and the service will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
