Maritime Talks, Albania Agreed in Principle; Greek Minister
After declaring two weeks ago that developments are expected within 2023, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias has spoken again about the draft agreement on the sea issue with Albania, that is expected to go to the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
In an interview with the Greek media, Dendias stated that an agreement in principle has been reached with Albania and Prime Minister Edi Rama and that only authorization from the Albanian president is awaited.
"Albania has agreed in principle and we have to put a name here, Edi Rama agreed in principle with exactly what we propose to Turkey as well. How it will be specifically specified in the draft project for the Hague International Court, we will have to see in the framework of the authorization that will be given to the Rama government by the Albanian president. But in principle, the agreement is excellent, an exemplary agreement for Turkey," Dendias said.
According to the Greek minister, this agreement should be an example for Turkey as well.
"Let's not forget that Edi Rama is a close friend of President Erdogan, Albania is a friendly country of Turkey. I believe that it can be a friendly country of Greece as well. I don't consider it a multi-zero game. But Albania, Turkey's friend, agreed, made an agreement with exactly the same proposal we made to Turkey," he added.
Asked about the recognition of Kosovo by Greece, Dendias stated that dialogue and the resolution of disputes with Serbia remain a condition.
