Message from the Ambassador Michel Tarran, on the Occasion of Global Election Day

The Head of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Ambassador Michel Tarran gave a message today on the occasion of the Global Election Day.

As Albania is approaching the parliamentary elections on May 11, Tarran recalled the importance of the right to vote and the power of citizens. Below the full message:

Today, on Global Election Day, we recall the importance of democratic processes, the fundamental right to vote and the power of citizens' voices in shaping Albania’s future.

The 11 May parliamentary elections will be an important moment for Albania’s democracy, as citizens elect their representatives in the Assembly for the next four years. Active participation in elections strengthens public confidence in the democratic institutions and processes, ensuring that every voice counts. Check your voter registration by reviewing the preliminary extracts available at your local Civil Status Office, on the Central Election Commission’s website/app, or via the e-Albania portal.

This election is also historic, as for the first time, eligible Albanian citizens living abroad will have the opportunity to vote from their country of residence. To make this right meaningful and help shape Albania’s future, we encourage all eligible voters abroad to register by 4 March 2025, following CEC guidelines.

We especially recognize the crucial role of young people in building a stronger democracy. Stay informed, get involved and make your voice heard at the ballot box! The OSCE Presence in Albania, in close cooperation with the CEC, remains committed to support greater youth participation in elections and fostering an inclusive electoral process.

Your vote matters! Your voice shapes the future!
