New Albania-Montenegro Border Point to Be Constructed

The government of Montenegro has approved a document through which negotiations with Albania begin for the establishment of a new border point between the two countries.

The border point is planned to be constructed near Ulcinj and Velipoja, in the area between Sveti Nikola (Montenegro) and Pulaj (Albania). The Montenegrin media explain that the reasons for the proposal of the Agreement between the Government of Montenegro and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania for the opening of the border point Sveti Nikolla, is to facilitate the movement of citizens between the two states and to facilitate traffic across the common state border.

As for the technical parameters of the customs point, they will be determined by the Joint Commission of the signatory parties. In the document approved by the Montenegrin government, it is clarified that the new border point will start functioning after the construction of the road connection Ulcin - Sveti Nikolla - Pulaj - Velipoj, the construction of the common border point and the fulfillment of the conditions for the normal functioning of border services of the signatory countries.
